Instagram Data Deletion

Last updated: 1 August 2026

This page is the deletion route for the Instagram data that Chatonaut holds. It explains what we receive when you connect an Instagram account, the three ways to have it deleted, and how long each one takes.

1. What we hold for a connected Instagram account

When you connect an Instagram account to Chatonaut, we receive and store:

  • the account's numeric Instagram user ID and its username;
  • an access token, so we can receive and send messages for you;
  • the direct messages, comments and story mentions that pass through the connected bot, together with the basic profile details of the people who sent them;
  • housekeeping data about the connection itself — when it was made, and whether it is still receiving events.

We use this only to run the features you switched on. We do not sell it, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not train third-party models on it. Our Privacy Policy sets this out in full.

2. Three ways to have it deleted

2.1. In Chatonaut — this deletes the data

  1. Sign in and open the Instagram channel.
  2. Go to its settings and use Delete the bot.

We revoke our app's access to your Instagram account, switch off the connection that sends us new messages, and delete the channel together with everything collected under it — conversations, messages, contacts, the comments and story mentions logged for your posts, the automations, the AI agent's knowledge base and the channel's statistics. This happens immediately and cannot be undone.

2.2. In Instagram — stop the connection, or ask Meta to delete

  1. Open your Instagram apps and websites settings.
  2. Find our app in the list and remove it. Instagram shows it under the name of the Meta app we connect through — ЭТОЧАТБОТ, the platform Chatonaut runs on, operated by the same person named in section 5 — so that is the entry to look for. There will not be one called Chatonaut.

Instagram tells us, our access to your account ends, and we stop receiving anything new. On its own this does not erase what we already hold: the signal says stop, not delete. We switch the affected connection off the moment it arrives, and a person on our side deletes the data within 30 days. If you want it gone sooner, delete the channel in Chatonaut or write to us.

There is a faster route in the same place: ask Meta to delete your data. Meta passes that request to us and gives you a confirmation code, and this one is not handled by hand — the deletion runs the moment the request reaches us, and we disconnect the Instagram account at the same time. Section 3 says exactly what it removes.

2.3. By email — if you cannot get into the account

  1. Write to [email protected] with Instagram data deletion in the subject line.
  2. Give us the Instagram username, or the numeric user ID if you have it.
  3. If Meta gave you a confirmation code, include it.

We start as soon as the request reaches us and confirm by email when it is done.

3. What deletion actually removes

When you delete the channel yourself (2.1), the following happens at once and cannot be undone:

  • The access token we hold for that account is deleted along with the channel.
  • The subscription that delivers new Instagram events to us is switched off, and the bot stops running.
  • The direct conversations, the messages inside them, and the contact records of the people who wrote to you are deleted.
  • So is everything else the channel collected: the comments and story mentions we logged for your posts, the record of which keyword rule fired and when, the CRM cards and tickets built out of those conversations, the automations and the knowledge base behind your AI agent, and the statistics we kept for the account.

When you ask Meta to delete your data (2.2), the same deletion runs, in full, as soon as Meta's request reaches us. Nobody has to press anything and nothing waits for a queue. We also cut the connection: the access token is erased and the Instagram account identifier is cleared, so the channel can no longer reach your account. We email the person whose Chatonaut account the channel belongs to, because the owner of an Instagram account and the person running the Chatonaut workspace are not always the same — an agency is the usual case — and they should not discover an empty inbox and guess why.

When you remove our app in your Instagram settings (2.2, first route), or write to us (2.3), nothing is deleted automatically. We switch the affected connection off as soon as the signal reaches us, and a person carries out the deletion within 30 days.

What stays either way. A few records survive the deletion on purpose, and none of them are your conversations: the history of free trial periods and promo codes used on the account, which stops "delete the channel, connect it again" from becoming an endless free period; the ledger of any AI credits granted and spent; the log of the emails we sent you; and, if you connected your own payment provider inside the bot, the record of the payments your customers made through it. One thing stays because the work is not finished: where we forwarded events to a partner system, the technical delivery log of those calls is stored in a form our channel deletion does not reach today. It records the calls, not the conversations, and we are not going to claim it is gone when it is not.

Deleting an Instagram connection does not touch your other channels or your Chatonaut account. To remove those as well, see Data Deletion.

4. How long it takes

Two of the routes take effect immediately: deleting the channel yourself, and a deletion request that reaches us through Meta. The other two wait on a person — removing our app in your Instagram settings, and writing to us — and there we start as soon as the request reaches us and finish within 30 days.

Once data is gone from the live service, copies can remain in our backups for a short time, until those backups are overwritten on their normal cycle. While they sit there, they are not used for anything.
