Data Deletion
Last updated: 1 August 2026
You can have your data deleted from Chatonaut at any time. This page explains how — whether you have a Chatonaut account, or you simply messaged a chatbot that someone built on Chatonaut.
1. Delete the data from a connected Instagram account
There are two places you can act, and they do different things. Read both before you choose.
- In Chatonaut — this deletes the data. Open the channel, go to its settings and use Delete the bot. We revoke our app's access to your Instagram account, switch off the connection that sends us new messages, and delete the channel together with everything stored under it — the conversations and messages, the contacts and what your automations saved about them, the comments and story mentions logged for your posts, the automations, the AI agent's knowledge base and the channel's statistics. This happens at once and cannot be undone.
- In Instagram — this stops the connection. Open your Instagram settings, go to Apps and websites and remove our app. Instagram lists it under the name of the Meta app we connect through — ЭТОЧАТБОТ, the platform Chatonaut runs on, operated by the same person named in section 6 — so that is the entry to look for; there will not be one called Chatonaut. Instagram tells us, our access to your account ends, and we stop receiving anything new. On its own this does not erase what we already hold: the signal says stop, not delete. We switch the connection off as soon as it arrives, and a person on our side deletes the data within 30 days. If you want it gone sooner, delete the channel in Chatonaut or email us at [email protected].
You can also ask Meta to delete your data from inside Instagram. Meta passes that request to us and gives you a confirmation code, and that request is not handled by hand: the deletion runs the moment it reaches us, and we cut the connection at the same time. The Instagram Data Deletion page sets out exactly what each route removes.
Your other channels work the same way on our side: deleting a Telegram or website chat channel in Chatonaut deletes everything stored under it — its conversations, its contacts, its automations and its statistics — at the same moment.
2. Delete your Chatonaut account
Email us at [email protected] from the address on your account and ask us to delete it. There is no delete button in the app yet, so we handle these requests by hand and may ask you one question to confirm the request really came from you. We will email you when it is done.
3. What we delete, and what we keep
When we delete your account, we remove:
- your account itself — your name, your email address and the password on it;
- every channel you connected, together with the tokens and keys behind it;
- the conversations and messages that ran through your channels, and the contacts, tags, notes and saved answers your automations collected along the way;
- the automations, AI agents and knowledge bases you built;
- the files and media you uploaded to the service.
A short list of records stays behind, and we use it for nothing else: the history of free trial periods and promo codes on your account, so that closing an account and opening another cannot restart a free period over and over; the ledger of any AI credits granted to you and spent; the log of the emails we sent you; and anything the law requires us to keep. If you connected your own payment provider inside a bot, the record of the payments your customers made through it stays as well — it is the only proof those payments happened. And one record stays because our work is unfinished: where we forwarded events to a partner system, the technical delivery log of those calls is not reached by the deletion we run today.
Chatonaut itself takes no payments from you, so there is no card or billing data of yours to hold in the first place. Our Privacy Policy sets out how long we hold data while your account is open.
4. If you messaged a chatbot built on Chatonaut
If you are not a Chatonaut customer but you wrote to a business that uses Chatonaut, that business decides what happens to your data — we only store it on their behalf. Please ask them first.
If you cannot reach them, email us at [email protected] with the name of the chatbot and roughly when you last wrote to it. We will pass your request to the business and help them act on it.
5. How long it takes
Deleting a channel yourself in Chatonaut takes effect immediately, and so does a deletion request that reaches us through Meta. When the work falls to a person — you removed our app in your Instagram settings, or you emailed us — we start as soon as the request reaches us and finish within 30 days.
Once data is gone from the live service, copies of the database taken before the deletion live out their own term on the storage side. We do not restore them to satisfy a deletion request, and deleted data does not come back into the service from them.
